About
Alex Loran is an enthusiastic and passionate saxophonist, composer, and educator based in Denver, Colorado. She received her Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies from the Thompson Jazz Studies Program at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2024. During her time at CU Boulder, she had the privilege of learning under Dr John Gunther, Brad Goode, Paul McKee, Paul Romaine, Victor Mestas, and many other talented faculty members. She also had the privilege to play with artists like Dave Holland, Nick Smart, Nikki Iles, and Greg Gisbert.
Alex enjoys playing soprano, alto, tenor, and baritone saxophones regularly, as well as playing the flute and being a vocalist. She has played with a variety of groups across the Denver-Boulder metro area, and has been an active bandleader as well. She can be heard playing baritone saxophone on the Brad Goode Polytonal Big Band record “The Snake Charmer”.
Alex has written a wide variety of works for big bands and small ensembles alike. Most recently, she recorded her first album at Mighty Fine Studios entitled “The Quest”. It features 6 of her pieces written for an octet, showcasing her unique voice and creative composition style. In 2023, Alex composed the “New Beginnings Suite”, a 6 movement suite for jazz big band, which was performed at the University of Colorado Boulder in 2024.
Alex teaches private saxophone, voice, and flute lessons, and has had experience as a classroom music teacher, and sectional leader. She has also been a Near-Peer Mentor with the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts. Alex works with Brava Jazz Publishing as the Marketing and Publishing Assistant. She strongly believes that everyone should have the access to a quality music education, as she was fortunate enough to receive one herself.
Outside of music, Alex enjoys spending time with her friends and family and cat, Theo. She also loves cooking, traveling, and solving puzzles.
